Art Meets 3×3 Basketball With Molly Hawkins’ Vivid Court Design
Every court at Writtle is adorned with an officially marked FIBA 3×3 acrylic finish, meticulously crafted and painted by artist Molly Hawkins. Molly’s artwork vividly encapsulates the intricate weave between arts, culture, and sports in Britain. Reflecting on her artistic choices, Molly noted, “My design concept focuses on how shapes and colour can create dynamic motion. The colours I chose for this piece create a clash in energy that, to me, feels really exciting and powerful. The vibrant themes of the court will, I hope, ignite passion and creativity.”
Inclusive Basketball at Writtle
The university boasts a total of ten spanking new basketball courts. Four practice courts located centrally at the campus are graced by the formidable Mega Slam 72 Hoops. The additional six courts, encompassing the central show court, come equipped with expansive floodlighting, ideal for hosting tournaments and grand events. For institutions considering similar installations, A Comprehensive Guide to buying Basketball Hoops for UK Education offers many valuable insights. Paired with powerful LED Game Lights, these hoops ensure the action continues post dusk. Writtle University College takes the accolade for being the first British institution to wholeheartedly embrace a dedicated 3×3 facility.
In the words of WUC’s Sports Maestro, Dr. Greg Deacon, “3×3 is basketball at its most inclusive. These courts are the first of many fantastic projects that will help us to support students, athletes and the local community.”
